Hi all

A programme following a dealer in pricey old cars is on tonight, Sunday, C4 - 7pm I think but check! While the title doesn't inspire great confidence, it might be worth a look ... but don't blame me if it's dire Smile

I don't know of others chase around YouTube for car programs, but there are some really good ones if you're interested.

I have a £70 device called Apple TV, it's full of Apps and gives me a few hundred more channels and thousands of movies and TV programs to watch, so I barely watch broadcast anymore. Amongst this lot is YouTube, which has so much good stuff you wouldn't believe. There are any number of old BBC documentaries about aircraft, most of the Humphrey Jenning Documentaries are there, you name it. It's a staggering resource and one worth exploring.

Petrolicious do a series of documentary shorts about cars and their owners that really are special. There's a retired Admiral who bought his Ferrari in 1958, still has it and has rebuilt it himself. There's an old chap whose father bought a Porsche 356 in 1958 and gave it to him after 80,000 miles. He's still got it and it has done 982,000 now and he loves it to bits. There are stories like this on so many.

For Ray there's 46 episodes of Roadkill where two really nice cheerful American loonies put mad engines in all sorts of scrap cars and drive all over America to compete in a drag race or whatever. It's great fun

And there's so much more if you search. Maybe if Rick sees stuff he likes he'll be tempted to post links and encourage others.

Rich, my son and I visited Jim Biddulph to look at some small HP R-Rs for a customer of his. He bought us lunch, he was a nice bloke.

I just watched the programme and rather enjoyed it. Paul the salesman needs to get up to speed on classics, although I suspect that that will be a feature of future shows.

Couldn't get my head around Richard. Part of me would like to spend some time with him, part would like to help direct him to A&E.

Lovely vehicles, though.

I quite enjoyed that, I'm not sure that the bloke who received the Bentley for his birthday was best suited to it, but time will tell I suppose.

I agree with Ian that the salesman needs to at least get acquainted with the stock. I rich Indian lady collector asked him if he knew the differences between a XK120 and a XK140 and after a few seconds of waffling he admitted that he didn't. Two cars he took customers out in broke down including the replica Blue Train Bentley which ran out of petrol and they ended up helping to push them back to the garage Rolling Eyes

Art, I hadn't realised that the Blue Train Bentley was a replica at £400 grand. How much is a real one worth? Shocked

Agree entirely, Rick. The car was far better than it's recipient. May I use the words rich twerp on here?

Ian

Obviously not. Twerp will have to do. I loathed him.

It's the wrong car; Wolf Barnato used a Mulliner Speed Six Saloon to race the Blue Train, not the one depicted in the programme - which is again for sale on the dealer's website so 'rich twerp' must have rejected wifey's gift.

I caught the last 15 mins of it, thought it was watchable.

I reckoned for £400K it was one of these. I would have thought the original would have gone for more even though that car didn't actually race the Blue Train.
If it's back for sale, perhaps the guy thought it wasn't unique enough

I didn't think it was as bad as I was expecting it to be. Part of me wonders whether the back-room guys were toying with the "new boy" salesman with two cars running out of fuel, or heaven forbid it was done for a bit of extra drama in the programme.

Mike, like me you have a suspicious nature. I strongly suspect the extra drama scenario. It makes for "compelling viewing". Possibly........

Rich twerps abound as far as I can judge.

I found myself chewing my nails with nervous apprehension because the so called "salesman" was so dreadful!

Any one of us could have done a better job. I was embarrassed just watching the fiasco of running out of petrol - not once but twice! The fact that the guy had not the first idea about old cars - let alone expensive Vintage and Classic ones - makes me wonder just how genuine he was. I don't think he would have got passed the interview!

If that is the standard these days, I could be tempted to get back into sales!

Richard Biddulph should sack the pratt! - I would.

Of course, it's easy to forget that it is just a T.V. programme and much of it could be staged for effect, but for a "one off" I quite enjoyed it. I found it easy to loath the customers and I thought they deserved the cars that they bought - that is if they were real?....customers that is.... but then some of the cars were a bit dodgy too... Laughing
