I remember visiting the Marstons Brewery in Burton and the restored fleet was lovely, some very old and important vintage lorries. _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

| I'd like to say Mornflake Oats have an old truck, but I haven't got a photo to hand and I suspect it's one of those new trucks that's intended to look like an old one. |

The largest independent coach company here in North Wales, Alpine Travel, has a number of classic coaches and here are two of them :

I don't know the make of the first but the second is a Guy Otter which the company bought in the early 1990s and it returned to Llandudno where it was when new. The CME of Alpine travel is a friend of mine and I was a passenger on one of it's first trial runs following purchase. _________________ Starting Handle Expert

Tunnock's bakery, well known for their caramel wafers have a mid-'30s Morris 8 van painted in their livery which used to come to car events in the Glasgow area. This was very popular as free samples of their wares were freely handed out.
The van was restored in the company garage by their transport manager.
Where was I when that job was on offer?
Regret I can't find a picture. |

The one thing I dislike about heritage fleets is that many of the lorries do not bear a relevance to the company and often the 'single person' restorers are judged on what has been done by the so called 'cheque book' restorers.
I am not saying this is always the case but it is a talking point now on the commercial scene. _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

Rules restaurant in London have a Rolls Royce 20/25 delivery van often seen around town http://classiccarsv.blogspot.com/2016/02/rolls-royce-2025-van.html
And my business is run using a pair of 1950s Citroen Traction Avants.
One of the things that stops more people doing that type of thing is the rarity of spares and mechanics that know the vehicles. Because metal gets tired, engine, gearbox and suspension failures tend to be more catastrophic (and expensive) than they were when the cars were new. This makes relying on an old vehicle a bit risky... |
