Apparently they will range from about £58,000 to £77,000.

Who in their right mind is going to pay that much?
Perhaps they will remain unsold until the price more sensibly reflects reality.?
On the other hand there are quite a few people with more money than sense.
No disrespect intended - just my four penneth. |

Series 1s do make silly money now.
Personally I would not spend such money on an old Land Rover that has no real history. It seems they will be an assembly of various bits picked up around the world (old chassis. Not rotten?, very early ones were galvanised but I would be surprised if 25 could have been found) along with "heritage parts" and a lick of paint. And what seems to be a healthy dollop of profit added.
Not for me. |

I believe the record price for a Series 1 Land Rover is £41,000 (hammer price) achieved by Coys for the T.V. programme "For the love of cars". This record may have been broken by now, I don't know but this would seem to me to be a more realistic figure if the vehicle is absolutely correct. To my eyes they look fabulous but from experience I would say that driving one is not for the faint hearted. |

You still have to wonder why people would pay that sort of money. _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

Everything in the world of old Series Land Rovers is sky high including desirability and prices.
Spares previously at reasonable prices, cheap even, have gone up and up in the last two years. For example, a good pattern outer front wing for a Series 2 was £25 when I bought one in 2009 is now nearly £90.
If you can find a genuine one it will be around £300.
I want to make a start on my own Series One 86" later this year and I hope I won't have to buy too much for it! _________________ Starting Handle Expert

Dear me!
Opportunism is the word that comes to mind.
But someone will buy it.
I know where there is a complete Austin J3 van by the side of a stream, it's been there for 30+ years.

I would say yes! They may be slow, noisy and mundane but I am sure you would grow to love it. If I had the time and more importantly the space I would go and see it. Even if it was well matured it would be worth restoring because it is so rare.
Please, please save it - if only to stop it falling into the hands of an unsympathetic hot rodder.

I love J Type vans Ray.
I had one for a year or two back in the sixties and drove it from London to Stroud every weekend for a year or two. I'd paid £3 10/- for it and dug it out of a builders yard. I had to dig another out when the axle failed and cough up another £1 10/- for it!
Hard times. |
