Quote: | I had an accident in Aberaeron in Wales. I was travelling along the High Street when suddenly a car pulled out of a line of parked cars in front of me. I braked heavily and turned to the right to avoid him, only to realise that the driver was making a U-turn. |
When I was 16 I had a very similar experience with an old guy doing a U-turn in front of me. Like you I also thought initially that he was just pulling out and like you I steered to the right to avoid him. I was riding a 200cc two stroke Durkop scooter and ran into his front wheel launching me over his bonnet and landing on the other side of his car making a three point landing on my head and finger tips. Fortunately it was raining and I was wearing my crash helmet which I didn't tend to do when it was fair. (No legal requirement back in the 1960s.)
I wrote-off his car and my scooter but got £50 off his insurance to buy me a replacement. Like you, the police were less than sympathetic to a teenage youth at the scene of the accident and just assumed that I had been the guilty party.

Added, photo of a very early two-seater. It's been identified as a Sizaire-Naudin - but is it?

After photos of his first car in 1954 (a BSA three-wheeler) featured on OCC, ex-owner David makes contact with the car's current owner via OCC, and re-visited his old steed back in April 2016.

I wonder how many Rover 8s found their way to Australia in period? Added to the following page, a period snapshot of just such a machine, with three unidentified people with it.

The following photo arrived a little while ago, the sender wonders if the char-a-banc's operator might be identifiable.
