Hi all,
Following on from Mike E's post about spotting an XJ220 in "normal" use, ie on the road in day-to-day traffic, what interesting vehicles have you seen in use, in regular traffic or perhaps parked up somewhere, outside of an event or organised gathering?
Erindoors and I made two very similar sightings at the same road junction, a couple of months apart from each other. This would have been in the late 1990s, early 2000s. We used to work for the same company, and much of our regular commute was cross-country. At a crossroads one day not far from Knutsford, we spotted D-Type 774RW waiting to pull out in a queue of traffic, heading towards us. At the time I believe it lived in the area. A few weeks later on the same commute, while waiting at the same junction, another genuine D-Type (reg. OKV something) was seen sat in the opposing queue.

I can think of a couple of notable sightings, but both were a long time ago!
The first was probably in the late 1960s, when I was overtaken (in my Austin Seven) by a Ford GT40 - it didn't stay in my sight for very long
Then a few years later, probably mid-seventies, I was overtaken on the M1 by Russ Turner in the ex-Birkin Bentley single-seater. I was doing about 90mph in my Triumph Vitesse, and the Bentley, too, didn't stay in my sight for long |

I used to catch up with a pre-impact 911 in silver quite often on the way to work during the week. It's often hard to tell what's being used normally. |

Probably an Austin Seven Open Road Tourer (1935) used as a daily driver by an old lady in Southend for years. Haven't seen CPU 954 for a while, but it used to be a regular sight at the market.
There's another old lady who drives a lowlight Minor around that she's owned since 1970 or something, and inherited it from her parents. _________________ Richard Hughes |
