Funny you should say that, yesterday afternoon I drove behind a new brown BMW. I rather liked the colour - different to the standard white, grey, dark blue and black.
Also, a Stag is pretty good in brown I would think. _________________ a car stops being fun when it becomes an investment |

There was one shade of British Leyland brown in which small cars such as Minis did look appealing.
This was Russett Brown and Mini Clubman Estates post 1977 when the side mouldings were deleted and silver side stripes added looked smart.
Other cars such as Triumph Dolomites and Stags did not suit the colour at all and the previous shade, Sienna brown looked awful.
Brown did not suit Rover SD1s either and I remember the late Michael Foot buying one in 1980/81.
I have for years hankered after a Ford Cortina 1600E and I was offered one a few years ago from the same person who sold me the 1954 Land Rover Series One 86".
It was an early example, 1968, with the raised instrument binnacle in quite good order. The colour was Saluki Bronze was the one aspect that curbed my enthusiasm.
I was relieved that it found a new home in Dublin before I weakened and would have bought it.
Rolls Royce Silver Shadows do not look right in brown either. For years a Mr Rossi, founder of Martini, spent two weeks fishing on a private section of river here. He had (then) a new 1979 "T" registered Shadow 2 in brown.
It spoiled a beautiful car. _________________ Starting Handle Expert

When i was an impoverished apprentice, a Morris 1000 in rose taupe seemed pretty attractive to me Rick. The larger cars like an Oxford looked better in rose taupe though.
I did like russet brown, as a change from the usual colours.
The Allegro suited russet, and unlike Ellis, I always liked the Dolomite range in russet. |

I agree: Russet Brown suits the Dolomites, in fact I like Russet on a range of Triumphs of the seventies, including the Spitfire - even an Allegro looks good in Russet. But then,I like brown cars anyway, although I also agree that a Herald in Sienna is not my favourite!
I was quite happy my Lancia was brown - much better in my eye than the common dark blue, light grey or black:

I think it looks very good on vintage cars.

Our 1928 Ford A Tudor during the 1972 International in New Zealand.
Not an official Ford colour- just personal choice.

| My second Range Rover was Cairngorm Brown metalic. It looked fabulous when clean, but quite lifeless when dirty. |

I once had a Wolseley 2200 wedge and that was in brown. In fact it was two tone brown; one of the shades of brown was rust! |
