Hi all. Bought a couple of weeks ago from uk ebay. Heart ruled head and totally under-estimated amount of time this is gonna take.
It seems to of had an interesting life.
Kept with the same family for 37 years and registered in 5 different countries.
But in recent years (since 09) it has had a bit harder life and been left to the elements. They have taken their toll.
So why did I buy it I hear you ask.
Because, W109 300SEL, imo, look awesome, always wanted a V8, like the idea of a handbuilt car. It had to be RHD , I've had too many LHD , and never really been happy with them.
I've always liked the black and chrome look but
my long term plan is to eventually use it for weddings. Hence the white interior and cream roof on this one looks lovely.
Anyhow, that's a long way off. There is lots of hard, dirty work before it will be fit for brides and bridemaids.
Finding it difficult to find a good resource for advice and parts.
Any old merc fans able to help?
Regards Karl. |

I have a nice pair of rose tinted specs, I'd never view a project without them! _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

Haaaa. It's the last one i do, honest! Lol
But lovely feeling saving something. A couple more winters and this would of been a parts car.
Yes, car is a runner. Some issues though, high tick over and diff whine. Love to get some mechanical advice.
I've had lots of old cars but mostly VW and you can't turn round without falling over someone giving advice on it! Lol.
I was told that there are only 8 RHD's in country. How can I check on that? |

Your best bet for advice is one of the Mercedes forums.
Most of the specialists are servicing W123/W124 models but I have come across Niemoller, a German supplier who seem to stock parts for this model.

Thanks Rick.
It is actually, the old gent deserves better than the horrible bodges carried out by "get them in, get them out" garages. |

Everything I've bought has been like that or worse, you'd never believe how bad my TR3A was and then I bought a 356 off EBay without seeing it before and all it needed was a couple of front floors and a rebuilt steering.
That Merc looks lovely and properly done will repay your work, so it's worth it. I hope you post lots of progress pictures. |

Cheers Ashley, it is a beauty.
Thinking I'm getting addicted to cutting and grinding. Lol.
Already scanning ebay for next project. Lol.
Chopping up the rear end. Lovely clean tank filter, somebody cared for this motor.........
