Triple C was probably the first car magazine I remember reading properly as a teenager. That said, my dad used to bring Motor home from work. There was a chap where he worked who had a subscription and would pass it on to Dad when he'd read it. So I suppose the first car mag I remember from when I was about 7 or 8 is Motor. Very Happy

Following on from my Practical Motorist 'post'; does any one have copies of The Garage and Motor Agent magazine?

When I was a lad I used to collect kit car mags and I had dreams of building a VW beach buggy in metallic purple! Shocked

Perhaps I still have a secret hankering...who knows? Laughing

Back in '68, when I was 14, there was a tv programme with Chuck Connors called 'Cowboy in Africa' and it featured a Manx dune buggy, the first I ever saw and it blew my mind to the extent that it stopped me reading about American hot rods and musclecars. Its on Youtube these days if anyone's interested, just watch the opening credits.

A year later, I'm walking up the main street in Kilmarnock during a lunchtime jaunt from school, and behind me came this almighty roar, like four British parallel twins at full revs! I looked and watched in amazement as a beach buggy turned onto the main road and tore up to the traffic lights with me haring after it...

I went back and discovered a guy building buggies in an old building next to the old church. He had three sitting waiting to be sold so I managed to get a seat in them and over the next few months, I'd hang out and pass him tools etc as I watched and learned.

The buggy shop didn't last long, but there were plenty others including a guy from Paisley called Geoff Rosenbloom who raced a Porsche 356 GP buggy in the local rounds of the Player's No.6 Autocross Championship (still got my programmes!)

Today, at 62 (& 3/4's), I'm still affected by buggies and despite several old car and bikes over the years, and my beloved Corvette, I still want and will have a buggy one day, but none of that blingy crap you see today, it will be a short wheelbase, have original beetle seats, steering wheel, banded steel wheels with VW hubcaps and as many original beetle parts as possible, as they were intended to be built.

Kinda like the one in this link.

Triple C.
They ran a series on modifying 105E suspension for competition that I did on my Anglia, prior to racing at Kylami in the '70s.

That and a roll cage was worth 2-3 seconds.

Geoff - Great memories.
