|
|
Not wishing to rely solely on "Bearing Lock" I'd like to fit the bearing after 24 hours in the domestic freezer and the housing under a 'little gentle heat'.
What is the allowance for this interference fit procedure,
(bearing O.D. 1.872")?
Looking forward to your knowledgeable replies!
Cheers, Tony. |

Tony,
First off;
If your bearing measures 1.872 then It has either, worn 3 thou undersize. (as 1.875" coverts to 1 7/8" which is a much more likely size).
Or, it may be that your measuring equipment is not accurate enough to read reliably to within 3 thou in which case might I respectfully suggest you are going to struggle to check the fit.
Bearing manufacturers will have a technical support department so if in doubt give them a ring and speak to an expert.
Good luck,
Mike |

Also, Something else that may be of interest.
The following once happened to me when fitting a roller bearing to a Triumph motorbike crank case.
I warmed up the case as you suggest.
Put Loctite bearing fit on the O/D of the bearing as you suggest and inserted it.
The heat from the case immediately solidified the Loctite forming a thin ring of hard dry adhesive around it.
Then then the crank case slowly contracted as it cooled down.
The result was that the crank case caused the bearing outer ring to contract and it was not possible to assemble the bearing.
It was very difficult t remove too. |
