I am currently restoring a vintage turnip sower. The wooden handles had rotted away and I have managed to make new ones. At each end of the handles were metal caps which had rusted away. I got new caps made from stainless steel. They are a conical shape. I need to drill a hole at the end of each cap. I cannot put the caps in a vice as it would distort them. Can anyone suggest a way of securing the caps which would allow me to drill holes? |

Maybe a little crude but how about putting a similar taper on a piece of doweling and just holding your end cap on the dowel whilst you grind a hole in the pointy end?

Can you drill from the inside of the cone? _________________ Mike - MVPeters at comcast.net

Tight(ish) fit blind hole in a piece of wood & as this poster says drill from the inside - very slowly as it's stainless, cheers,JD. _________________ 1958 Ford Zephyr Mk2 Convertible
