Morning all,
A couple of these unusual in-flight BEA bulletins for an Elizabethan Class flight in an Airspeed Ambassador turned up at a car boot sale yesterday.
Both were issued on the same flight in 1957, and appear to have been filled in by one of the flight crew (headed by a Captain Wickham) prior to being passed to the passengers, for their interest.
[Edited] Not having a clue who "Christopher Marlowe" was I had to look him up, apparently he was a playwright, poet and translator of the Elizabethan era. So presumably the name of the aircraft, as each was individually named.
I can't say I've seen one of these before.
The second bulletin, also for this flight on the 27th July 1957, was timed at 1.27pm, present position recorded as Montelimar.

Airspeed Ambassador G-ALZO 'Christopher Marlowe' is at Duxford, it's the sole survivor of its type. Though it's now in Dan-Air colours, it was orignally supplied to BEA in 1952; BEA named its Ambassadors after prominent Elizabethans, hence its name. In 1960 it was sold to the Royal Jordanian Air Force and three years later to Dan-Air. It was donated to the Duxford Aviation Society in 1986. _________________ David

What role did "R.M.A. Christopher Marlowe" have with British European Airways?

A sort of poor man's Constellation?

Maybe I should donate one of the bulletins to Duxford then, when they finally complete the resto

When I was there on Friday the Ambassador wasn't open, a pity as it was one of the aircraft I'd have liked to look round. I'm sure they'd appreciate one of the bulletins or even a copy of one as the VC10 had a great collection of period items inside.
The Ambassador was, of course, the type of aircraft involved in the Munich air crash in 1958 that killed several of the Manchester United team and some officials and journalists. The registration was G-ALZU. _________________ David
