Having set up my twin SU carbs on the manifold with linkage kit and made a bracket for cable operation I am trying to figure out how to connect the cable to the pedal end. At present there is a rod running across the bulkhead with ball joints to connect to the zenith carb. I don't want cut that rod in any way. Anyone have any ideas and photos would help too. _________________ 1957 ford popular |

The Dellow has a similar rod, supported in bearings, travelling across the bulkhead to the left side.
At that side the rod becomes a lever [set at right angles to the rod]
Is this set-up familiar to you?
The lever end had a cable clamp attached, with a ferrule holder mounted underneath on the bulkhead.
A short cable goes from there, downwards, then back up in an S curve, to arrive [pointing downwards again] between the carbs.
I think the cable is something like the old mini cable?
Pressing the throttle pedal raises the lever [on the other end, left side of car] which pulls up on throttle cable....the rest is, erm, obvious?
You may be able to get away with removing the topmost ball joint...if there is a hole in the lever, then a screw in cable clamp should fit?
Sorry, no photos at present, although I will endeavour if I can get the technology to work for me? |

Yes, sounds similar, I think I will have to mount the manifolds and carbs before I will know if the existing lever fouls the right hand carb. I am using a bicycle gear cable. Have made a bracket to the right of the left carb, drilled a 5/16" unf bolt to take the outer cable with a smaller hole for the inner, bottom of small hole I used a centre drill to make a tapered hole so the cable doesn't rub against the hole as it moves side to side with the throttle lever movement. I have two nuts I turned thinner as lock nuts for fine adjustment. I will post a photo later. Brackets are all rough cut at the moment until I'm happy it all works. _________________ 1957 ford popular |

Do you not have a heat shield between manifold and insulation blocks?
One of those usually will have a fitment to take a throttle cable end. |

Not a proper one, I made one mainly to anchor the return springs. No insulation blocks. As you can probably see it's an aquaplane manifold and I've not seen a heat shield available. _________________ 1957 ford popular |

i'm going cable all the way, no pop linkage, using a moggy thou throttle pedal, early mini pedal's work too,
why did'nt you just buy a cable adjuster, £2.40 off ebay,
