I saw what I assume to be this Vulcan on Sky last night. It was a lovely sight, I will admit.
If I understood correctly, it was restored to flying condition by donations. Is that correct? This makes me a little sad! Why couldnt this piece of our heritage have been restored by government funding? They can use money on anything else....

An amazing day, really did bring a tear to my eye when she popped up over the trees. Managed to make the other end for the overshoot and landing, only 150 feet above my head!! Still can't quite believe what i've seen... Did get one or two pics but for most of it I was just watching her, absolutely awestruck!! |

Hi
I haven't realise in the past how big she is!
I have just re-read part of the thread, and whilst I don't have the deepest interest in planes this is awesome! I also am wondering what the tow truck/tractor is, any ideas?
Cheers

Hi
For those who haven't seen it, there is another link on the "Interesting Links" board.
Incidently, is the Guppy which appears on that clip the ex-BAC/SUD Eurobus one, that they used for transporting Concord and Airbus components, before building the Beluga? |

Hi Rick
They used to come into Filton after I left RR but before I came north in '81.
Whether it was early airbus or late concord trips I wasn't sure. |

Great thread chaps, the last time I saw a Vulcan in the air was at the Exeter air day, 1988. I'm very much looking forward to experiencing that sight and sound again, it really does make the hairs on the back of ones neck stand up.... |

A guy on another forum I frequent is searching for pictures &/or information on the following.
His relative was part of the crews concerned & it seems that most pictures relating to the subject are in the hands of 'a rather tight group of history buffs in the UK'.
"I'm looking for more detailed pics of the "Old Crow" and "Wicked Witch" B-24's with the 44th Bomb Group (Heavy), 506th Squadron that was based at RAF Shipdam from late 1942-1945. Both were piloted by my cousin. The Wicked Witch was shot down over Kiel, Germany May 14, 1943 while flown by another pilot. The Old Crow faired better and survived 20+ missions including Ploesti before being scrapped in Sicily in '44". _________________ Don't run your fingers over my truck & I won't run my truck over your fingers!
