H,
thank you for the complement,
as these thing's tend to , it's taking me a lot longer to sort this car out, everything mechanical on it is either out of adjustment or u/s, plus doing a few mod's on it pushes the finish date further away, good job i'm not in a rush,
a few people mentioned that with the 175 radial tyre's on it, the steering would be heavy, well, i pushed it about on the driveway to get it in a better position to get it up on the four axle stand's, and even with the 12" mountney steering wheel i've put on, it was surprisingly easy, plus i couldnt believe how light these car's are, really easy to push about, _________________ 1957 - 103e - popular, |

i'll find the box it came in, to let you know the part No, etc, i bought it from my local tube shop, braided, steel, etc,
all you do is drill two hole's in the sump, and bolt it on, easy, i poured 5 pint's of water into the sump, to find the level, to mark on the outside, now fitted, work's fine,

drained the g/box oil, jeeze, what a terrible colour, dont think it had been changed for year's,
while i had the drain plug out, installed a 1/4" x 1/2" magnet,
g/box mount's installed, the old one's were perished and the bolt's were loose with cotter pin's missing,
inline petrol filter fitted, wired up the water temp gauge, let the engine run for a while, not quite reading normal, so i'll have to fiddle with some more resistor's,

Hi
You mentioned drilling 2 holes for the bolts, but how does the oil get into the tube to show the level? _________________ Bristols should always come in pairs.

the bolt's are hollow, ie banjo bolt, they come with the gauge, _________________ 1957 - 103e - popular, |

Hi
Instead of drilling through the bolts, drill between adjacent flats which should miss the thread, then use locking wire between the 2 nuts in a direction which doesn't permit slackening.
Of course if the nuts are wired you also need to wire the bolt heads.

That is why I suggested drilling through the the bolt and nut. The bolts are only holding the indicator against the sump and gasket. Hardly any stress on them.
Better still make a tab washer to encompass both bolts like brake disc rotors on bicycles were done in the past. _________________ 1957 ford popular |

peterwpg wrote: | In the long distant past didn't someone invent a "dipstick" | had you read the thread Peter you would know that with the twin su's and aquaplane manifolds it's not possible to keep the dipstick. This may be when the aquaplane head is used as I haven't fitted my su's yet and don't know if it's possible to get the dipstick out. I wonder if it's possible to bend the dipstick tube so the dipstick can be got at. _________________ 1957 ford popular |
