I think the costs involved in rebuilds on any of these programmes must be huge. _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

I never really liked overhaulin, although he seems to do a nice paintjob but the rest is all the same, bigger engine, bigger brakes, huge wheels with ultra low profile tyres that just don't look right, monster sound system in the boot. If I had a classic yank in the garage and they did that to it I would be devastated. |

Ah so it's one of these "surprise the owner with a re-worked/restored" jobs is it?

Yes it is, but unlike car SOS who try to keep it original these guys will even rip out the old gauges and install a digital dashboard. Sacrilege. And they wind the owner up by pretending that his car has been stolen or whatever.
I know a lot of guys on here don't like customising but a show I do like to watch is Counting Cars. |

Chip Foose, the guy who fronts overhaulin used to work with Boyd Coddington. |

One thing that drives me mad about these US programs is that many of them have near constant electric guitar thrashing background and not so background music!
Now I love rock music, have been an AC/DC fan since school, but why do US "documentarys" insist on having it?

I find all the US shows a bit over the top, but then again that seems to be part of their culture. We are quite reserved over here. _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

I think Bitchin Rides is one of the better ones because the people in it are incredibly skilled and doing clever things. Sadly the producers assume the audience is half witted.
The worst ever and the bar is low, has to be Goblin Garage, although it might tie with Classic Car Rescue I think it’s called with a hysterical cockney shouting at everyone in it. Who thought that was a good idea.
Reality is that most are moronic and badly made. They show no respect for the audience. The result is that some home made efforts on YouTube are better.
Has anyone tried Roadkill? |

They ruined a perfectly good 2CV van too and they’re rare and excellent.
There’s a chap who comes to my son’s business in a cracking 240Z. It’s original, it looks good, sounds good and goes well. Quite valuable too. Those idiots trashed that car IMO. |

What puzzled me was they were attempting to get the best 0-60 from the Datsun at Rockingham but all the weight saving was compromised because they tested the car two up.!
As to the 2CV van. I am yet to be convinced these things are in any way safe. My brother in law nearly lost his life when someone jumped a red light and smashed into the 2CV he was driving. The bodywork literally disintegrated and he was left sitting in the middle of the road holding onto the steering wheel with nothing left of the car that could be recognised. It might have looked funny - like something out of a cartoon - but he wasn't laughing.
The only time I drove a 2CV it frightened the life out of me. The thing rolled on corners like a boat at sea. The French are welcome to them as far as I am concerned. |
