Bit of an update, got a new exhaust manifold, two hot spot gaskets and a manifold gasket. Fitted and gas tight.
Engine runs better and sort of ticks over but still revs rising and falling, cannot get a good setting on the air bleed screw.
After a run I can see fuel vapour leaking front and back on the carb just below the butterfly from open holes. Is this normal?
I would like to find another carburettor to replace this one as it has clearly been abused in the past. Anyone got one?
Off to Newark auto jumble next weekend for a search for one.

Had a bit of luck today, found on eBay a new old stock zenith carburettor.
Should be here and fitted by next weekend.

New Old Stock carburettor fitted. Started first pull and runs fine, ticks over nicely.
Out for a drive tomorrow weather permitting 🤞
Thanks for your help in sorting these problems out. 👍
