Well that was a rough week without the forum to provide my nightly entertainment. What a sad life I lead!
Any truth in the rumour that Rick posted the Memberlist on two CD's through the postal service??
Rick - Just hope the worry didn't spoil the honeymoon.
Now I'll get back to the Amazon-v-Chrysler war of words with Uncle Joe

Hi Rick
I'm back.
I've got some interesting photos to come.
Does the manufacturer Belsize ring any bells? |

Hi
I too have been a little bored of an evening, have been concentrating on a couple of other forums I am on, Beekeeping and Stationary engines.
Belsize, or Belsize Bradshaw, from Manchester 1896-1916 and then 1920-1924, they went into recievership in 1925 with £500,000 of debts. Known as Belsize before the war, and then Belsize Bradshaw which was a medium sized car post war, thereafter they were commonly known as Belsize Bradshaw's.
I really look forward to your pictures and any further info you have!
Cheers

Hi
Well here we go again.
These are all at the same place in Trawden.
The owner tells me it is the largest collection of Belsize Motors in the world. They range from 1909 to ones from the '20s.
There is usually a meet there during the summer.
It is a garage that does work on modern cars as well, as you can se it was a little dark inside and I will have to try to get better photos of the truck (Wooden Plank doors)
The engine and the Badge is in/on the large maroon car.
the other cars have 4cyl engines, I'm not sure about the truck and the van.
This is believed to have belonged to a Ladies gownshop.
The saloon version of the large maroon convertible.

You've all been away?
I've been all alone in here for a week wandering up and down the corridors looking for everybody! I even found Rick's little secret room where he keeps all the good stuff. ................... Just joking.
Its good to see the place open for business again - thanks for your work on this Rick.

Hi
Your other half will probably be relieved to hear that it is a work in progress and not for sale.
The artillery wheels on that are metal whereas most of the others have wooden ones. |

Oh goody! Up and running again.
Just back from the motor museum where I've spent the day fiddling about with an assortment of dynamos in an effort to sort a good'un out. The Super Minx ignition light decided not to go out and since the belt was still there and tight it had to be dynamo or regulator (didn't it??). Anyhow, I swapped in a really nice replacement that I'd recently bought but it did't seem to make a difference so I swapped it back. I then began worrying about the regulator. The one on the Hillman is the old-style two-bobbin 106 type but I only had a three-bobbin 340 type. After studying the wiring diagrams in my Haynes manual I reckoned I'd worked out what went where and connected it all up.
Sure enough it didn't work!
At that point I called in a learned friend and we swapped the dynamo over again and had another go. Nothing. Car starts fine but light still gleams when revved.
Learned friend said we should test the dynamos so he collected me this morning and we took the original and the replacement over to the museum, where there are work benches and all learned friend's tools and equipment, and a supply of dynamos in various states of second-handness. We rigged up an electric motor to drive the dynamos, along with a regulator and battery, and consulted the Autobooks "Car electrics" and did all the tests.
To be honest, I'm not entirely sure what we proved but it would appear that a couple of the dynamos are OK. One of the tests involved connecting the dynamos up to the battery and driving them like a motor. Apparently, depending on the polarity of the field and armature windings, the dynamo will revolve in one or other direction. At the moment I've got one that goes one way and one going the other way. Since I want one that is -ve earth it would seem like I might be OK with one or the other but I haven't the faintest which!
I tried the flashing over trick to change polarity but I couldn't see any change in direction of rotation (assuming that's what I need) so if any of you is a whizz with sparks and can shed any light, I'd be very happy and back on the road to boot!
At all events, the forum is back on the road, which is great.
Cheers
John |
