Now I don't want to cause any waves or tread on anybody's toes and I especially don't want to do anybody out of business, But at work last night I was chatting to a bloke who told me that British owners are now taking their vehicles to Poland for restoration ! I thought yeah right, but it did get me interested and thinking. So I done a web search and found these

Why would anybody want to take a car to Poland to be restored you may ask ? Ill tell you why, I have a Big Austin from the 1950s. Its pretty rare and I would like to have it restored as original . I don't have the expertise to do it so I approached a few restoration company's and asked what it would cost ? Now I know that companies have over heads such as rent , electricity etc etc . So how much do you reckon ? ........ TWENTY THOUSAND POUNDS !!!! For me this is a good reason to explore the Polish question a bit more "MO" |

Hi Mo, yes I've heard of cars heading East to be restored, apparently there are plenty of good craftsmen over that way, and like you say labour costs are significantly lower. I guess in these days of email and the net it'd be quite easy to keep in touch with progress too, although I'd want personal recommendations from someone in the UK who has already used a given company, before entrusting my own car to their attentions.
Would this be for your pickup by any chance??

Yes it was for my pick up. I actually have 3 pick-ups . a 1980 mini , a load of pieces (I took it apart !!!) that if put together would make a 1965 Bedford JO and of course my A70. I would like to post some pics on the site , but at the moment the instructions are beyond me "MO" |

As regards Poland, one thing that we have been doing for a while here is sending over parts to be chromed. They always do a first class job, absolutely wonderful. The biggest problem is the worry. Will we ever see the parts again? |
