Good evening gentlemen, I'm not tearing my hair out (what little I have left) but it's getting there.
My problem is to do with the Lucas SD84 indicator switch, with my bench festooned with wires, batteries, test lamps etc, I finally got the indicators to flash but I'm stumped if I can get the warning light in the centre of the switch to illuminate.
The lamp is serviceable and lights when I put power to a pole and the earth around the edge but I just cannot get it to light. I've installed a internal connection between poles 5 & 6 which wasn't there before.
I need your help! I'm not the brightest lamp in the box when it comes to 'lectrics.

Tony,
If you have a two pin flasher I think it should be connected to each side’s out put. IE To the left and right signal wires. When you signal left it will get its feed from there and earth via the right side, and vice versa.
If you have the three pin flasher then the middle pin on the flasher is the indicator warning light. Connnect that to one side of warning light and the other side to earth.

I'm sorry to have to say, I'm still in the dark about 2 & 3 pin flashers! It's not the flasher unit I'm having trouble with, it's the actual directional switch.
Are you talking about the same switch wot I am?
There is no pin in the middle, it's the power to the lamp.

Yes penman that's the switch. You will have to explain what is meant by 2 pin and 3 pin flashers.
I've been switching between the two circuits to compare and I think it is the 2 pin flasher. Could it be I'm wiring up the dwitch to the incorrect circuit?
What is the significance of the single black dot in the connection arrangement?

The photos show 6 terminals on the switch.
The diagram shows 5 os with wires to them so I would think the black dot is an unused terminal.
You might have to split the switch to check that the internal connections (shown red on the photos) are intact.
Incidentally, you might like to know that one of the accessory makers did a similar switch which was slightly higher and had a spring loaded, timed, return to off, function. _________________ Bristols should always come in pairs.

Good morning penman, I've gurgled 2 & 3 flashers and now understand!
I've taken the switch apart as far as I dare and given it a good clean, as I said there was no link between 5 & 6.
I have a slight problem in that the marks on the flasher are +, R and C. Which marks - B, P and L on the circuit diagram do they equate/relate to?

I wouldn't worry about the flasher! It's only a flashing 12V feed to the switch, which directs it left or right or off. As long as the bulbs are correct - 21W - the flash rate will be correct. If there are no bulbs = no load - the flash rate will be very high.
For testing, just by-pass the flasher & feed 12V to the switch. A simple test light will tell you which are left, right & pilot light terminals. _________________ Mike - MVPeters at comcast.net

Good morning MVPeters, nice to have you join in the fun!
I have had some success... in that I now have the indicator lamps flashing 'normally' but the red light in the centre of the switch flashes only once.
(1) is this normal - if yes - we've cracked it.
(2) if not and the red lamp should flash each time the indicators flash, then is it possible we have a duff flasher unit?
Does the red light flash only once, each time a turn is indicated?

I had previously linked connectors 5 & 6 and after scrutinising the rear view of the switch I linked 1 & 2. All I have to do now is make a fool proof drawing so I can install it in the vehicle.
