East Lothian has retained its old sign posts.

I would say that is an error. According to Wiki it was once called Caer - Luel. |

I'd agree. After a fascinating few minutes on Google Earth it seems that even the other side of that sign uses the more normal spelling.

Seems as if there are quite a few similar signs along that lane, which is nice to see. Interestingly the first one I found appears to be in a Google Streetview "black hole", presumably because someone has asked for their house to be blocked out. |

Talking of typos, on the way into London near to new cross there are two signs one on each side of the one way road, folkestone and folkstone _________________ 1957 ford popular |

Not got any signs as yet, but...I do wonder what happens to these old signs, when route directions and road numbers get changed [as they do]...? _________________ Dellow Mk2, 1951 built, reg 1952.

Hi
Saw this in Scotland between Aviemore and Loch Garten probably over 20yrs ago.
There was also a pair of white lines crossing the road, at an angle, between 2 wooden tunnels under the deer fences. _________________ Bristols should always come in pairs.

I don't know if it's still there but there was a nice one in the upper part of Bridgnorth a few years ago, a non standard sign pointing straight on for the "main road" at a narrow spot complete with reflective "jewels" pretty much complete. Actually thinking about it it must be something over 20 years ago now, so plenty of time for it to have vanished...
Around the centre of Derby many of the street name plates still have their A numbers attached, worth looking out for if you happen to visit. |

Was the lettering in green? I came across a few photos from 10+ years ago, possibly taken in Bridgnorth, with a sign like you describe in one of them. Possibly mounted on a pub wall?

I have a feeling the lettering - or at least some part of the sign - was in green glass, but it's a long time since I saw it. I reckon I'd know it again if I saw a decent picture of it... |
