No doubt there are errors in the text, but the photos are interesting and it has an interesting past

Hi
Well, it isn't the car in the '57 B/W picture of HM.

Quite so. That photo looks more like Rolls Royce which would have been more likely...however not to be out done the French provided Her Majesty with something more flamboyant.
A quick search revealed the car in which H.M. The Queen was seen during the State Visit to Paris in 1957.

Somewhat more "up market" than the Citroen Traction Avant. What is it? A Delage perhaps?

We could have done with some more photos. I expect it is nice inside as well.

The car in the 57 picture is a Chapron, a special bodied Citroen Traction Avant based on a 15/6 and built especially for Presidential use. There was a closed car as well, called a Franay. They were designed by Phillipe Charbonneaux.
I will try and scan the photo that I have of the two cars.

The restored car referred to initially was the Limousine version of the LWB Familiale Traction, without the additional row of seats, thus giving extremely generous rear seat accommodation. Trim was probably slightly better than the standard cars, although I note that it still appears from photographs to have the bus type front seats. It also has the same bumpers as were fitted to the 6 cylinder Tractions, so it maybe a Six as well. The owner has been seeking to sell it and it is with a garage in the West Mids, I believe, at a shade under £50k.

Hi
From Wiki
Quote:
President Charles de Gaulle survived an assassination attempt at Le Petit-Clamart near Paris on August 22, 1962, planned by Algerian War veteran Jean-Marie Bastien-Thiry. The plan was to ambush the motorcade with machine guns, disable the vehicles, and then close in for the kill. De Gaulle praised the unusual abilities of his unarmoured Citroën DS with saving his life – the car, riddled with bullets and all four tyres punctured, was still able to escape at full speed. Afterward, De Gaulle vowed never to ride in any other make of car

The number of tyres punctured seems to vary between accounts, from one to four. There was another attempt on De Gaulles life a few years earlier when an incendiary roadside device was set off. The president's chauffeur drove flat out through the fireball and they escaped unharmed.
