Peter,
The Anglia was my road car for many years in the ‘60s to ‘72 and a neighbour down the road has one that he lowered 1.1/2”
Liked the look and read in various magazines that that was the max recommended and NOT to go lower.
That ‘Not’ was like a ‘red rag to a bull’, as whenever I’m told I cannot do something I do it.
Result was 2” lower and 6” wide rims where all ‘experts’ said 5.1/5 where the max that could fit.
Rims with 175 tyres where close with a finger width clearance at rear with fender and the OS front fender lower outer edge having to be yanked out a bit for full lock.
Bump stops needed trimming but only made contact with axle with 4-up on really bumpy roads.
It looked a beast with chrome hubcaps and bikini trims and rorty twin exhaust.
Mild engine mods with twin choke Nikki carb meant I could get the rear tyres to chirp changing from 1st into 2nd from traffic lights (Robots)
What more did a young blood need, except the obvious 🤔🤗😂
Time came that I needed something a lot more roomy and comfortable having returned home after undergoing training with Merlin-Gerin in Grenoble, and taking up a position in their newly formed SA company dealing with municipal electrical distribution engineers.
When in France I saw a photo of the then new Taunus and new the Ford version was on its way.
Well I saw them advertised and a power blue GT with the then new Pinto OHC leapt out and said I’m yours!!
My first brand new Mk3 Cortina GT BUT the trade-in price for the Anglia was just taking the proverbial so decided to go racing with it.
In hindsight it could have been lowered another inch but I towed it using an A-frame.
A month or so stripping interior, modifying suspension, roll cage, bucket seat etc and it was ‘Kyalami here I come!’
I enjoyed ever lap and even took the car to the track on Saturday Open Practice days for my ‘fix’!

The photos don’t do justice as the area was buzzing with all types of bee plus hover-flies.
Looking with anticipation or next year’s growth.
Patch dug over and all growth removed, and apple tree given a ‘Short back and sides’ as it was getting out of hand.

Carport Gutter Support
Thanks guys.
Very up and down at the moment with good then bad days.
Carport still uncomfortably hot for me to work in but cooler weather and rain forecast from tomorrow.
Never thought I would be complaining about heat but things change.
I have, however, fixed a section of the Carport gutter that collapsed during a cloud burst a few weeks ago, when one of the brackets pulled free due to wood rot.
Used the old grey matter to come up with what I think are nifty gutter supports that I poked through 38mm holes drilled in the wood along its length to hopefully prevent any further collapsing.
Well brother said that was thinking outside of the box.
