Many years ago we used these matching layshafts as candlestick holders on our dining room table. I swapped both out of our Rebel after each lost one and a half teeth off third gear. I never discovered why it happened.

Very true Ray. When daughter Janet grew too big for a carry cot in the back of our Ginetta I had to sell it and buy something bigger (The Rebel).

After my wife had me paint the threshold step in porch due to our sons big boots ripping the paint off for the umpteenth time, I screwed a sill plate off a P6 to it. It is still there, shiny bright, nearly 16yrs later, and i've not had to paint the step since. Result! _________________ 1974 Mk1 Escort. |

Not from a car... but as a teenager I would sometimes take a paying passenger (illegally) on my delivery bike and fitted motorbike "Dreadnought" foot rests to the back wheel spindle. |

I did possess another piece of repurposed automobilia but having just looked I must have disposed of them. They were a pair of quite nice lacing leather shoes that I bought in Spain about 40 years go. They looked very normal until you looked at the soles that were very obviously sections of car tyre tread.
Another totally different repurposed item I used for years was a couple of short leaf spring leaves that I used as tyre levers until I got into 18" wheels and learned to use the proper Dunlop 9" levers that are part of my old car's tool kit.

I have just remembered. For many years I had an old Triumph GT6 window winder as a handle on my shed door. It used to make my Father in Law smile; he had worked at a BL main dealer garage.
I also used an old Austin Seven block as a door stop.
As a child I had a large GB sign on the back of my (tandem) soap box. I also had pretend rear lights from a pre War car. It looked good!
There are probably other car things that I have re purposed which I might remember given time. |
