Johns Motors is just up the road from me. They used to be in Northampton town centre many years ago and were the Reliant dealer for the town. _________________ Hillman minx convertible. Lanchester LD 10 |

Good to see Benstead's Cottage garage is still there. Horsell was my neck of the woods growing up.
(Benstead was more my Dad's era with motorbikes at Brooklands pre War, though)

Given the flood level in Rick's link Shipps Garage is appropriately named.

Not roadside petrol but an old looking workshop building.
Station Rd Garage Ellesmere.

The garage in the village next to us is for sale and has been since the summer, such a shame as the building was put up in 1950 and its being marketed for housing.... _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

It's the same story everywhere these days. All these new little houses springing up all over the place with little thought seemingly given to where the people who will live in these houses are going to work with the inevitable result that everyone wastes their lives sitting in traffic jams on the way into the big city and paying through the nose for the privilige of doing so... |

One remarkable survivor that I know of is Cresswell's Garage Wokingham. The images may be copyright but if you put in the name it comes up with both old and recent photos. Apart from the ugly canopy, not much has changed over the years.
I know the Cresswells; they are very proud of their family tradition. |

Here is one in Ilkeston Derbyshire. Jack Hands 'Central Garage' is on the edge. Blink and you will miss it.

I use to regularly visit The Dew Drop Inn in Ilkeston which was the venue for the monthly meeting of the local 2CV club. It was like stepping back into the 1960s or earlier. The interior was wonderfully original and it's probably my all time favourite pub. It's been a good six or seven years since I last visited, so no idea what it's like now. _________________ 1989 2CV

We still have them - but far less than in the UK - here in France. This garage was operational until a couple of years back but now lies empty and derelict. What is interesting is that the petrol pump served 2-stroke!

Just been out to Poynings in Sussex. This garage still appears to be going strong for servicing and mot's. Not fuel though.
