Having used up the last of my old stock Smiths sleeved thermostats last year, I am wondering what to put in the boot in case of a future failure. Most of the thermostats now seem to fail closed, and when mine failed it failed open of course. Al I had to do was stop at a bar and beg an old carton and partially blank the radiator I'm sure Peter Crespin will know just what replacement is suitable nowadays - it's a 1961 3.8 E-type. Annoyingly I was searching the net, came across a reference to an MG one and then the screen went blank and I lost the reference, never to be seen again. There seem to be mixed reports about the SNG Barratt replacement too. So, advice from the members would be most helpful. |

That looks like a 'wax-stat' to me, which will fail closed.
It's the 'bellows' style that fails open that are hard to find.
On the other hand, the modern, wax, ones are around 5GBP locally. _________________ Mike - MVPeters at comcast.net

Problem solved. Had an email from a friend who still has some NOS. He'll test one in some warm water and let me have it if OK. |
