Quote: | have been risk-assessed |
From the DVSA quote above.
Not a lot of drivers out there will realise that all the Highway Code, , & syllabuses for all categories of driving test...plus what is expected of examiners and instructors undergoing DVSA assessment drives, is that pretty much every rule....regardless of whether enshrined in Law or not....is subject to that 'risk assessment' protocol.
This is how [and why?] things like the Highway Code get changed or modified, as an example.....The DVSA are quite responsive to changes in need out there on the public highways.
As an example, if one particular type of RTC rears its ugly head, someone somewhere recognises a pattern, and comes up with a 'solution' to help reduce such RTCs...
The Highway Code itself can be altered to reflect changes in driving or road usage patterns....and it is perfectly acceptable for 'ordinary' members of the public to write in and identify issues, or make suggestions.
This is known today as ''feedback.''
In my view, today's basic Cat B driving tests are far harder to deal with for a candidate, than the driving tests of 50 years ago.
Today's new drivers are far better skilled that those of 50 years ago.
So whilst rules and procedures today may seem almost anathema to the 50 year driver, what needs to be remembered is that experts have conducted risk assessments which have resulted in that procedure.
Risk assessment [conducted properly, with complete information to hand] is something most drivers actually don't do.
For example, many a driver exercises what they consider to be 'courtesy' towards other road users.
Yet those same 'courteous' actions carried out on a driving test, might result in a 'serious fault' [a 'Fail']
The result is indignant blustering from the old driver....who quite simply has failed to comprehend the bigger picture surrounding their 'courteous' action The massively increase risk factor......A case of 'common sense' not being anything like as 'common' as we all imagine it to be?
Something which reared its ugly head to me personally yesterday, from someone who ought to have known better?
Or, maybe not? _________________ Dellow Mk2, 1951 built, reg 1952.

Literally 3 miles from us, down a back lane and found by accident, a small classic car garage.
A lovely Mk2 Cortina Super outside and what looked like some Triumphs in the yard.
Might have to stop in there one day for a chat. _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

I'm guessing the owner is fairly local and new the "de-control area", I was back to 70-75 but he was scampering away. Q: Can ANPR read plates as per the Bentley ? |

ANPR cameras cannot detect speed however the ones in use now can read black/silver plates. |

A really nicely restored 1970's Bedford Ambulance spotted this morning and then plenty of nice old motorcycles out on a run in the sunshine through the village. _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

One thing I noticed yesterday was a perfectly clear blue sky. A complete absence of vapour trails is something I can remember from my childhood and never thought I would see again.
Mixed feelings. |

Pre COVID, the sky North of us (New Brunswick Cnd) was always full of vapour trails and navigation lights on clear nights. Very few this past year but over the U.S.A there are a few....

Went into town this morning and passed a Green Humber SuperSnipe estate and then a very nice white Triumph 2000. _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

Black Ford Pop (or something that looked like one) just passed here. Non-standard running gear, going by the sound of it. _________________ 1976 Vauxhall HP Firenza, 1976 Vauxhall Sportshatch (x2), 1986 Audi coupe quattro, 2000 Audi TT |
