In the world of Classic Reliability Trials [A UK oddity]....over the past months folk have been posting up photos and reminiscences of past Long Distance Trials [now called 'Classic??']....
30 or 40 years ago, one gent used to trial his Aston Martin....
{ I recall competing in a Yorkshire Trial, many years ago now, where a gent trialled a pre-wawer BMW 328. One Observed section was a bit bumpy, and the BMW chassis a bit stiff, so it progressed up the section with but 3 wheels in contact with the ground...different wheels as it progressed. First one leg, then another, and so on.} _________________ Dellow Mk2, 1951 built, reg 1952.

That guy deserves a medal. It takes a certain amount of courage to NOT go down the erstwhile route of returning a Classic car to "just as it came out of the factory" and bend it (figuratively speaking!) to one's own requirements unless you are devoid of sentiment for old cars in general which I don't think he is.
To go rallying in a classic Aston Martin is a whole different ball game compared with what most enthusiasts would be able to do. Admittedly, there is a 'big money' element to it but in this case I don't think it would be an issue - my guess is he will want to USE his cars almost regardless of cost! |

BMWs have a long history of successful trials ; this is the 1937 Lawrence Cup Trial:
