Ray, is wellseal a gasket sealant?
Being an auto box I’ve not put any sealant on the joint, just a smear of Vaseline to keep things in place, good advice on the torque settings.

Yes Kevin. The beauty of it is that it is completely harmless to your gearbox and never sets so things can come apart again if you need. That said, I often assemble things with petroleum jelly and that is safe to use.

Talking about Vaseline I have tried for years to explain to people that it is what they should be using on their battery terminals ...NOT GREASE!!

I will say it again; I love the look of your car. I showed my wife a photo of it and she liked it too. Great praise indeed!!

Thanks Ray, I’ve ordered some Wellseal and the metal reinforcement plate.

It is a lovely old motor, love driving it and so easy to work on.

PX7?
That's battery terminal grease....brown in colour, smells awful too...[stops it being used for other purposes?]

White Lithium grease is battery terminal grease too....

Correct. I am assuming most people don't have it to hand. What I want to emphasise is that normal grease should not be applied to terminals prior to connection. Connect dry then apply the appropriate terminal protector.

I also advocate applying baking soda to the battery terminals and top and washing off with hot water.

I should have added that if you use petroleum jelly it should only be applied very thinly because it has a lower melting point than dielectric grease and is pretty flammable.
