0 to 50 in 11.7 secs was pretty good for a 1940s car of 1486 cc.
It think later versions had a boot lid rather than having to stuff it from behind the seats.

Yes Peter. The boot lid was introduced on the 1952 model; the 1A. The model also saw 68 BHP from a 1500cc engine.
I have never driven or been in one but they are much admired by Jowett enthusiasts and in their day were competition for cars like the Jaguar XK120.

More info about their competition pedigree.
From Wiki:
Motor sport success
The Jupiter achieved competition success with a record-breaking class win at the 1950 Le Mans 24 Hour race, a class one-two in the 1951 Monte Carlo International Rally, an outright win in the 1951 Lisbon International Rally, and a class one-two in a gruelling four-hour sports car race on the public road at Dundrod Circuit in Northern Ireland in September 1951. This was a resurrection of the famous Ulster Tourist Trophy races of 1928-1936 previously run on the 13.7-mile (22.0 km) Ards circuit. Le Mans was again class-won in 1951 and 1952, and lesser events were taken in 1952 but by 1953 newer faster cars were proving a match for the Jupiter which was after all a well-appointed touring car first and foremost. _________________ Bristols should always come in pairs.

Rick. Do you know if the Superpoise was made in 4x4 guise for the Military? |

The militarised Superpoise was the Q4, as used by the army.

My father bought one new in 1955. Unfortunately I threw away all the purchase paperwork when I cleared my parents house out in 2002.
It was a cheap and nasty car with no boot lid, access from behind the rear seats, and no chrome work. It used to drive alright but not as good as the 10 of the same period.
I fitted a heater to a 10 belonging to a friend of my father using the kit marketed by Standard.
He gave it to my younger brother when I moved to Australia in 1961 and he took my 100E Anglia. |
