‘PART OF THE FAMILY’ REVEALED AS 2022 THEME FOR LANCASTER INSURANCE CLASSIC MOTOR SHOW WITH DISCOVERY+

•Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show, with discovery+, will be held 11-13 Nov 2022 at Birmingham’s NEC.
•The 2022 show theme is ‘Part of the Family’
•Clubs and exhibitors encouraged to take part in annual show theme

The Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show, with discovery+, has announced that the 2022 show theme will be ‘Part of the Family.’

The show organisers offer the theme as a challenge to the hundreds of car clubs and exhibitors to try and interpret in their displays and stands at the show. From TV and film cars to Top Trumps, the theme is always inclusive so everyone can get involved.

Show Director Lee Masters said: “After running for over 35 years, finding a new theme for each show can be difficult. However, this year was the simplest yet! We knew we wanted something family related and then we saw our headline sponsor Lancaster Insurance’s new marketing campaign with the strapline “Part of the Family’. It was like it was meant to be!

“The classic car community is a family that continues to grow every year as the next generation joins. We need to welcome and embrace new family members as they are the future of classic motoring.”

This year’s theme has so many options for the 300 car clubs attending. Groups of cars from one manufacturing family; a car that has passed from generation to generation; famous motoring families; family projects, adventures and builds; memories of family cars and where they are now; Plus, there’s always the ‘black sheep’ of the family…

Andrew Evanson, Senior Operations Manager for Lancaster, said: “We’ve been part of the Classic Motor Show family as headline sponsor for nearly 10 years but a fan for many more, and when we heard the theme was inspired by Lancaster’s current campaign it felt really special. Family is a word that truly embodies our community and whatever your choice of classic is, each and every person is ‘part of the family’ and plays an important part in making the movement as extraordinary as it is. We can’t wait to celebrate with everyone in November.”

As well as the show theme, there will also be several features including a two-day sale by Silverstone Auctions, the Meguiar’s Club Showcase, the discovery+ Live Stage, and the popular Lancaster Insurance Pride of Ownership competition.

The Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show, with discovery+, is scheduled to be held at Birmingham’s NEC from Friday 11 to Sunday 13 November 2022. Tickets are now on sale. LANCASTER INSURANCE PRIDE OF OWNERSHIP
AUTUMN FINALISTS REVEALED

•A mix of 20 classic cars have been selected for the final of the Lancaster Insurance Pride of Ownership.
•Cars range from 1938 Austin 10 Cambridge to a 1998 Bentley Turbo R
•The Autumn Final will be held at Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show, with discovery+, on 11-13 Nov 2022 at Birmingham’s NEC.

The 20 cars that will compete for the winning title in the Lancaster Insurance Pride of Ownership Autumn Final have been revealed. The winner will be decided by visitors to the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show, with discovery+, on 11-13 Nov 2022 at Birmingham’s NEC.

From over 80 entries from private owners, the 20 finalists have been selected for their diversity, history and, in some cases, rarity.

Andrew Evanson, Senior Operations Manager of Lancaster Insurance, sponsors of the Pride of Ownership, said: “The display is firmly established as a fan favourite and it’s because you are always guaranteed to see some incredible classics and hear some special stories too, and this year has certainly not disappointed. The beauty of this competition really is that anyone, and their classic, can take home the trophy and we can’t wait to crown them in November.”

The oldest of the finalists is a 1938 Austin 10 Cambridge owned by Graham Fitzhugh while the youngest is Aaron Patel’s 1998 Bentley Turbo R.

In between is a fantastic mix of ages with seven cars representing the swinging ‘60s including Adrian Liepins’ 1960 TVR Grantura, once called ‘the worse car he’d ever driven’ by the late Jim Clark OBE, and Ian Croft’s 1968 Lotus Elan, previously owned by racing driver Graham Hill.

Adrian Howell’s 1972 Aston Martin DBS V8, heralded as the World’s fastest saloon car when it was launched, will be joined by a trio of classics from the disco era including Louise Barrett’s 1976 William Cyclo, believed to be only one of two in existence.

The 1980s are covered by Stephen Cheape’s 1981 Ford Fiesta 950 Popular, Philip Egan’s quirky 1985 Honda Acty, David Roberts’ freshly restored 1985 Nissan Cherry, and Mick Jones’ original 1983 BMW 316 Baur Convertible.

There is tough competition from the ‘90s as Jamie Eglinton’s 1992 Rover Mini, Andrew Ray’s 1993 Vauxhall Nova GSi, and Lez Dix’s 1995 Ginetta G33 RV8, battle it out for the visitor votes.

While all finalists receive a certificate, the winner and two runners up all receive trophies and a year’s free car insurance from Lancaster Insurance up to the value of £250 (T&C apply).

The overall winner will also be offered the chance to display their car at the next event held by the organisers – as well as the obvious bragging rights!

Previous winners include Jake Clappison’s 1979 Triumph Spitfire, Ted Brookes’ 1961 Morris Minor Million and Laura Godtschalk and her 1992 Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet.

‘OLD OUT YA HAND! AUTO ALEX AND JONNY SMITH JOIN MIKE BREWER ON DISCOVERY+ LIVE STAGE AT NEC CLASSIC

•Wheeler Dealers Mike Brewer is joined by Alex Kersten and Jonny Smith to host the discovery+ Live Stage.

•Stage features interviews, car cavalcades, topical motoring panels, Q&A sessions and a live restoration.

•The Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show, with discovery+, is held from 11-13 November 2022 at Birmingham’s NEC.

•Tickets now on sale via advanced online booking

This year’s Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show, with discovery+, welcomes some new faces to the discovery+ Live Stage with ‘Auto Alex’ Kersten and The Late Brake Show’s Jonny Smith joining Wheeler Dealers’ Mike Brewer.

Best known for presenting Car Throttle and his hilarious impressions of his ‘TV Dad’ Mike Brewer, journalist Alex Kersten can now be seen on YouTube. Launched last October, his ‘Auto Alex’ channel showcases his passion for buying ‘modern classics’ and the cheapest cars Alex can find!

Alex said: “I’m so excited to be joining Mike on stage at the show. As well as presenting, I’m also going to be bringing along my infamous Mazda MX-5, which has appeared in so many of my videos, so people can see just what it’s really like up close!”

Joining Mike and Alex is former Fifth Gear presenter Jonny Smith. Renowned for his passion for modified vehicles, Jonny now hosts The Late Brake Show on YouTube where he test drives a whole feast of Restomods as well as discovering Barn Finds and interviewing fellow motoring enthusiasts.

Mike and the team will host an entertaining mix of interviews, car cavalcades, topical motoring panels as well as Q&A sessions.

They will also welcome the team from Practical Classics who will be rebuilding deputy editor James Walshe’s Citroen 2CV over the show weekend, which was near on destroyed earlier in the year, and drive it off the stage at the end of the show.

Mike said: “I can’t wait to get back on stage at the NEC and I’m looking forward to working with Alex and Jonny. It’s going to be great fun and I’m sure we’ll keep the crowds entertained.”

The discovery+ Live Stage is just one of many features on offer such as the Sporting Bears’ Dream Rides Garage, Restoration Theatre and Meguiar’s Club Showcase.

JONNY SMITH’S THE LATE BRAKE SHOW CURATES NEW RESTOMODS DISPLAY FOR NEC CLASSIC

•Jonny Smith’s The Late Brake Show is curating a display of exciting Restomods for this year’s season finale at Birmingham’s NEC.

•The eclectic display will feature six to eight vehicles that are a mix of internal combustion engine and electric powered.

•The Restomods will also be featured on the discovery+ Live Stage each day.

•The Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show, with discovery+, is held from 11-13 November 2022 at Birmingham’s NEC.

•Tickets now on sale via advanced online booking.

This year’s Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show, with discovery+, will present a display of the latest and best ‘Restomods’ on the classic scene, curated by Jonny Smith and The Late Brake Show.

TV presenter and YouTuber Jonny Smith said: “We are really excited to be involved with the NEC Classic and can’t wait to bring some of the cars we’ve featured on our channel live to the show. There will also be a few cars that have been on our wish list for a while as well as some that will appear in the not too distant future.”

Restomods are classic cars that have been modified with modern parts and technology. Aesthetically, the vehicle looks the same, having either been restored or using a heritage bodyshell, until you look under the bonnet or go to turn on the radio.

The display includes the stunning MST Mk1, a modern take on the 1960’s design of the iconic Ford Escort, that is hand built as a touring road car or full on road and track car.

Also appearing is the beautiful Eagle Low Drag GT. Known for its special edition E-Types, Eagle has spent over 30 years perfecting its vehicles and the Low Drag GT is no different. A grand tourer in the true sense of the word, it benefits from the technical, practical and aesthetic improvements of the Eagle Speedster.

The brand new Range Rover Chieftain Hybrid is taking a break from road testing to join the display. The Hybrid is the latest creation from JIA in Banbury, who have breathed new life into the revered Range Rover Classic with intensive re-engineering for a more modern, more exciting and impressive driving experience.

Going all electric, the new electric version of TIPO 184 kit car will get its global debut at the NEC. Designed by former Wheeler Dealers mechanic Ant Anstead, the TIPO 184 uses a Mazda MX-5 as a donor car.

Leicestershire based Retropower, the company responsible for the complete design and rebuild of legendary car designer Gordon Murray’s own Mk1 Escort, will be bringing two Restomods that are already living their best lives with their new owners.

The Late Brake Show was launched in 2020 and is an eclectic automotive entertainment YouTube channel and digital platform, born from the brain of British motoring journalist, TV presenter and walking car encyclopaedia Jonny Smith. With over 430k subscribers, Jonny and his team find and review a whole host of vehicles from brand new to barn finds.

Perhaps the TC will be ready next year?

I think getting the right balance between old and new is the key. Personally, I think a good resto mod should superficially look like it's unmodified brethren but have discreetly added features that enhance it's drivability. The problem is that this whole area is subjective. I think one needs an open mind.

Was at the NEC today, assisting in setting up our stand, nice selection of old commercials arrived under their own steam in hall 4 (well the last few hundred yards!) including a “Jack Jones Butchers” van, not sure if it’s the original?

The Old Ford van carryin the same reg as the one in the f2015dad's Army film , BUC 852, is shown as Colour ; Brown, on the DVLA website.
I haven't been able to find a reg number for the TV one.
Although according to various Wiki sources they also give that reg.

It also appears to be kept at the Charles Burrell collection in Jone's livery; so why does DVLA show it as Brown?
Is the one in the Museum a ringer?

I'll keep a look out - we usually do the autojumble first, and then have a look around the car club stands if there's time at the end.

I'm there tomorrow (Saturday), always a great show. Always have a Sporting Bears ride, but as I'm getting old and anything after about 1975 is a 'modern' in my mind, the choice gets smaller every year. Great bunch of people the Bears.

I had a decent day on Saturday, picked up some stuff that I needed and saw some people I haven't seen since last year. Lovely steak and ale pie from the Crusty Pie Co again, but then for £6.50 it should be.
