Most moderns leave me cold although I have to acknowledge some technical advances are pretty impressive.

BMW may not be top of the list when one thinks of "classic cars" - especially moderns - but I was particularly attracted to this one. The interior looks like a particularly nice place to be and mechanically it has much to commend it.

What do you all think? Have I finally lost the plot... or could this Alpina BMW coupe be a future classic?

everything will be a future classic in reality, we always look on old cars with rose tinted specs in reality, any vehicle will be old enough if it is still about and usable, even electric ones one day!

I've always liked the E46-shape 3-series, but I've no idea what that'd be worth. Did I read somewhere that BMW have bought Alpina? Or did I imagine it?

Yes, Alpina is now part of the BMW empire. I suppose it is understandable as they have had a close relationship for over 50 years...but I expect by the time the bean counters have done their work the brand will become nothing more than an emblem.

I really like this car and if I hadn't sunk my pension into the MG I would have been a keen bidder. Probably just as well because you can't just fix one of these pocket rockets on a budget!

My mate had a new one, it was on an 02 plate too, he was surprised when the V5 arrived as the manufacturer was listed as "ALPINA" rather than BMW.

My Father has a 1998 BMW 528i in immaculate condition tucked away in a garage. They've had it years and when it came off the road he decided this would be the car to keep hold of.

The 2003 ALPINA. It sold for just £10k.

I thought it would have gone for a bit more than that. Someone got a bargain..........until it goes wrong, of course Shocked
