Used to be common on MK1 Zephyrs and Consuls. Not a problem if you didn't open the bonnet |

I remember my Dad taking me to see a low mileage Mk1 Cortina that had been sitting in a damp garage for a few years. The idea was that I should have something more modern than my Austin A30 and this car looked immaculate. I mean spotless on the outside. When Dad lifted the bonnet his expression changed.
"Watch this". he said and proceeded to bounce the car up and down. The next thing I saw - and heard - was a Mac Pherson strut shoot up through it's turret just like in that photo.
Needless to say when we found the spring hangers, sills and floor had all rusted through we went home. |
