I was instantly attracted to this delightfully original little BSA Bantam. My very first (motorised) restoration was one of these that my Dad had gathering dust at the back of the garage. As an 8 year old kid I would spent ages studying the Bantam and one day in a moment of unusual generosity Dad said if I could get it running it was mine.!!
There were the usual caveats involving discomfort... and it "hardly able to pull the skin off a rice pudding" (which I didn't quite understand) and to not come "whinging" to him if it wouldn't go.... but I was smitten.
MY bike was not just dirty; it was disgustingly filthy, but undaunted I cleaned every inch and found gleaming green paint under the muck. The transfers came up like new but I remember the wheels were hard work!.
I read about how to de coke the engine and get a spark and without too much trouble she started.... accompanied by much smoke...but it ran!!
In the end Dad had a financial crisis and had to sell "MY" BSA ...but by then my sights were set on getting behind the wheel.!

You don't see many with their leg fairings still attached. Probably not fashionable...but I like them.! |

The owner of the Bantam obviously knows a good thing when he sees it... |
