Does anyone know what the long chrome protruding things are mounted on the lower front of this Aston Martin? At first I thought perhaps they were WWII black out shrouds for spot lamps but they appear to be angle down and would completely shade out any light?

I think they are horns; probably added to compliment the rather weak Altettes as originally fitted. I can't say as I have ever seen any like them before.
Unless of course I am completely wrong!
This Mark 11 2/4 is, I guess, from 1934 and was based closely on the Le Mans cars... with various improvements such as thermostatically controlled radiator shutters. The winged enamel badge is very similar to those found on present day cars ...with the exception the that the hyphen has fallen out of use.
Pedantically, I would describe this model as a Post Vintage Thoroughbred. |

I'm sure I've seen a very similar question posted fairly recently. The trouble is, I can't remember where it was posted, or what the answer was.

Thanks for your suggestions. The shroud makes me think they can't be lamps so that only leaves horns but in the close up they do look a bit odd.

Yes Ray, that's a 3rd Series MkII was as you describe. Incidentally I have the thermostatically operated grill slats on my Lagonda but they don't work! The Aston Martin wings have changed subtly over the years. As you say, the hyphen was dropped, then David Brown's name was added and the feathers have been tweaked over the years. The latest change was to remove the second layer of feathers in order to make the badge/logo easier to render on mobile devices. |
