Long-time viewers of this website will know that, for several years, the occupants of my garage have been a 1931 Austin Seven and a 1953 Lancia Appia. Well this year has seen that all change: the Austin departed at the beginning of the year, and then a couple of months ago I was made an offer for the Appia that I couldn't refuse, and that left last month.
With a big empty space in the garage and money in my pocket it wasn't going to be long before something caught my eye, and here it is:
Say hello to my 'new' 1938 Talbot Ten Airline saloon which arrived this week. Already there are a number of little jobs that need attention, it seems the car has seen little use for the last few years and is suffering a bit from mechanical neglect. Hopefully nothing a full service and check-over can't sort ot.

Goodness, that takes me down memory lane. A Talbot 10 was one of the first cars I ever worked on. If I recall, it was based on a version of the Hillman Minx called the "Aero" and had an aluminium cylinder head which in the case of the car I worked on was particularly difficult to remove having suffered corrosion... but that should not detract from what - as you know - is a very nice, well equipped car.
I came very close to buying one from a dealer in Hampshire many years ago but it was not to be.
I am sure you will enjoy your Talbot 10. It would be great if you could report on it's progress. |

-My Dad's first car was a Talbot 10 DHC. A most handsome vehicle. Sadly he had to sell it to fund house purchase before I even appeared but I understand he did a virtual nut and bolt restoration on it in a sideway garage in his lodgings with the help of his landlord and my Mum. My older cousin got taken for a ride in it a couple of times.

| I don't know exactly when it happened but post War, the Talbot 10 became the 'Sunbeam Talbot.' It was offered with four doors and gained some different wings. The Saloon lost it's nice wood dashboard; replaced with a one piece Bakelite panel (although it retained wood on the tourer.) |

The 3-Litre Talbot I had was 1937 and in '38 that model became the Sunbeam-Talbot 3 Litre, very few changes were introduced I think although it did switch to hydraulic brakes at the same time.

The Talbot Ten (like mine) became the Sunbeam Talbot Ten in mid-1938; the engine and radiator were moved forward about 4" and the 2-door Airline saloon was replaced by a 4-door saloon body.
