Well..we have had a very productive morning simply exploring and checking out the truck.

I can pretty much say that we don't think the lorry is a Pre Heater Truck. We did have our doubts but needed to check her over properly first.

What got us thinking pre heater was that attached to one side of the gearbox is a compressor...but not pto as the heater spec states.

I have now found by looking through various handbooks for 3 tonnes of the same late war period that the compressor is actually an in the field tyre inflator which is run off the running of the trucks engine. Quite clever really.

But, it quite clearly rules out it being a heater truck.

So, we haven't quite started the restoration but we wanted to put a few things in motion.

Her engine is seized and was left for many years with the head off so the cylinders were full of lots of gunk and detritus. We have now cleaned all this out and are soaking the pistons.

As it was a nice day yesterday we were able to get on with more work on the Commer as she is outside. We drained the oil....well, water then black sludge...

We managed to remove all the sump bolts and lower the sump. Surprisingly everything inside looks in pretty good condition considering the years it has been idle.

Plenty of crap and sludge in the sump pan though..
