The amount of spares I have purchased from Speedy Spares over the years and the amount of rare as hens teeth parts they have found after digging around...they are a must for the Rootes owner.
I do very much hope a buyer can be found, but not one who then triples the price of everything!!
We have another Commer and Hillman waiting in the restoration queue... _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

I think I'd be putting a hefty shopping list together and hoovering up service items etc.

There used to be a supplier in Chester, who's family has a motor factor business for decades, over the years they had accumulated a mass of "NOS" stock, which was all documented and recorded on an ancient IT system. When he retired, he continued to supply to the classic vehicle world.
When I was rebuilding my MGA, he supplied every component to enable a full engine, gearbox, steering, brakes rebuild, and used to joke with me that supplying parts for this "modern stuff" (my MGA and everything else post war) was easy, I was there once and he was sorting out a load of stuff for someone rebuilding a 1910 Silver Ghost engine!
When he retired properly, 15 years or so ago, all the stock was was sold to a well known supplier of Classic car parts, unfortunately they don't appear to know what most of the stock is, and the stuff they do has quadrupled in price.
Let's hope Speedy's stock ends up in good hands. |

Speedy Spares is about half a mile from where I live.
It still looks just like in Rays picture.
Immediately behind it is a large garden centre. Immediately to one side of it is the garden centres restaurant. Next to that a large car park for the garden centre is currently being built.
I don't think the Speedy shop is long for this world.
I bet the garden centre have bought the site. |

The 28th is here and Speedy Spares has closed its doors for the last time.
I have been in contact with then and have been told various car clubs have purchased job lots of spares, there is also a chap who has then purchased most of the remaining stock.
Nothing will be binned or scrapped. _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |
