Now that IS nice!

I expect it will go to someone who will restore it...and loose it's charm.

Would be beautiful if it were left as it were with that patina.

I bet that after some recommissioning and a clean it would ready to go. I don't know what the weak points are on these... but you just know it is going to be a good car! Very Happy

They're very rare cars Ray, good solid engine, very well appointed and built cars for the time.

I think as soon as someone strips all that away it will be ruined. Just a look at the interior photos and I can imagine the smell of those original leather seats...

I would do no restoration to the body and interior but I would like to rewire it. I expect it would soon become evident why the car was taken off the road.

Our big Hillman is original, yes there are areas of the headlining that are stained and threadbare and yes the seats are well worn and the paint has faded in places and there are battle scars...but....

I would never restore the car and have no intention of doing anything except for mechanical or electrical work on her. She ouzes patina and we know that can never be replicated.

I often get 'told' at shows by the shiny brigade that she needs a respray or the bumpers re-chroming but to me it will always be a no. If we restore from the chassis up then yes we do the full works, but if you find a car that's in this sort of state that's taken 80 odd years to age then leave it. Show it. Drive it just for the shear enjoyment.

It has been a few years since I took Trundles to a car show. I had people ask me when was I going to restore her. What they didn't realise was that I had spent hundreds of hours rebuilding the Ash frame from the inside and countless late nights spent preserving the interior. My Swallow is regarded as probably the most original, matching numbers example in existence that is actually on the road and although the paint is later it has never changed from two tone grey.

The MG is a different kettle of fish altogether. Although having it's original engine and chassis not much else could be saved.

Summat is better than nowt, I think?

Perhaps, next time someone barges in demanding to know when one's motor is going to be 'restored', or the bumpers rechromed, or the paint renewed.....have a large collection box in front, and tell 'em to contribute handsomely first, if they want what they are asking?

As is often the case, I find, putting their money where their mouths are, brings such conversations to a dead stop.

The biggest conversation stopper I find, focuses on the vocal disappointment when someone 'advertises' an old vehicle, almost free of charge...and the voices loudly protest, ''why hasn't that person restored it?'' or rebuilt it, or whatever?
When those who shout loudest are totally unwilling to do something about it themselves?

I have personal experience of this phenomenon....almost 15 years ago now, whilst I was into the world of rear engined Skodas [for trialling, mainly]...a retired old school Skoda mechanic frequently advertised a Rapid, free to a good [better?] home.
Much wailing and gnashing of teeth followed, as to why the car could not be 'saved?'
Yet, no-one was willing to actually DO something about it.
In the end, I called by and picked it up on my trailer.
The guy was having health issues, and the car was in darned good order, if partly 'stripped'...with all NOS spares needed, sat in the boot[bonnet]..
I took it with no actual plans, but with two aims...to shut folk up, and because I had space for it in my garden.

It was one cars too many for me, too...so I advertised it some years later, complete with most spares....and again, no takers, for several years. I even offered to trailer it to a new owner, for the price of the fuel.

Finally I was contacted by an interested party, a deal was done....and subsequently they did very little with it, and almost scrapped it.

So, as far as I'm concerned, if anybody suggests I do 'anything,' other than practical suggestions for solving an existing problem.....regarding my cars, they can go fly a kite!

Thus far, suggestions of 'resparys' are met with the question, ''Why?''

A very handsome looking car indeed. The dash looks very wormy, is there ash framing hiding away out of sight that could also be well-nibbled?

Its an all steel body, I had a 34 Minx and although all Steel it still had a large amount of ash framing underneath so I would assume the same on the 16.
