Good question. I had a Morris Marina that burned petrol and oil in equal quantities.

Same here, with a 6 cyl Land Rover.

To it's credit, the Marina engine had done a colossal milage when some of the rings broke while driving back from the South of France. The journey was constantly being interrupted by the need to replenish the oil.
We were lucky not to get pulled over by the Gendarmerie with the clouds of blue smoke being left in our wake.
It was, however, the catalyst for my then Boss to get a replacement car... which turned out to be my lovely, lovely Lancia.  |
