I have made a couple of visits to our local tip recently, there appears to be an unofficial policy to not chuck potentially "useful" stuff into the relevant skip, but to leave it by the side, last week I spotted this Blackhawk socket set, asked one of the attendants if I could take it, response was "fill your boots"

A couple of days later back at the tip, and recovered this vice, a bit grubby but works fine Smile

Has anyone else relieved their local tip of useful stuff?

I once just missed out as a guy threw a wooden box full of little nuts and bolts into the skip. I shouted but it was just a second or two too late.

I hate to think what this generation are throwing away simply because they don't know how to use it. Sad

Nice finds Dave.

On two separate occasions, back when living with my folks, I went to the local tip to drop off some old engine oil, and left on the top of the oil tank was an old two-gallon can. First time was a Redline, the second time a very rare Glyder can, both of which I still have.

Our local tip is the same, has an area that decent stuff is kept to one side..

But, you are not and I repeat definately not allowed to take anything..

I think it is stupid rule. Far better, surely, that items are recycled or re purposed than end up in land fill.

I am also at a loss to understand why there are charges to dispose of stuff in vans. No wonder there is so much fly tipping.
