Hi been a while since my last visit.

Pics of vehicles used by the Brisbane City Council. ( Australia)

And a interesting way to advertise a new car...use the Brisbane tramway. Holden ute with hydramatic transmission. The Brisbane trams no longer exist....Melbourne has them still....about the largest system in the world.

Very interesting
They must have used it for a while, because I "think" the hydramatic only came out in the "EK" model of 1961, so the "ute" must be from that year, but the sedan is its predecessor, an "FB",of 1960 which I thought never had an automatic option. Did they use the mobile "showroom" after the FB / EK model, certainly novel.
It's funny, I remember dozens of those old Vanguard utes running around, I had a couple of relatives that had them, a neighbour had two and there were several others in the district, and I don't think I have laid eyes on one probably since the 1980s!

Yes I believe the EK was the first with hydramatic .

I had a EJ ute with factory hydramatic, people used to tell me it was rare as it was not fitted to many utes. The grey motor wasn't ideal, it struggled a little on hills .

I think those Vanguard utes were more common in rural regions... they were not unique to Australia, I believe they were also marketed in the UK and the RAF used them. The later phase 3 utes ( six cyl. ) may have been unique to Australia?

Yep, I second that!

The "advertising display tram" is certainly something I had never heard of, any idea about its history and how long they used it?

The advertising trams were in use until 1969... the adverts date to as early as the 1930s.
