I was going to introduce myself but think i got the wrong section but i'll fish for a bit of info whilst i'm here if you dont mind Confused
The missus father has this Jaguar emblem/statue he wants to sell to raise funds so he can buy a disabled cart for himself and before i ebay it i was wondering if anyone could tell me how old it is and what sort of price it would fetch as i dont want to leave him short changed, any info will be greatfully recieved and thanks in advance.

this is the emblem/statue,it has been mounted on a wooden plinth and has been mounted from the bottom so there is no damage like drill holes in it,it is in good condition and has only a small bit of chrome worn on the base showing a bronze coloure through it.

Oh thought i,d better add... it says "copyright"at the back of the base and "desmo" at the front...someone told me it may come from a 1930's jaguar bonnet????????

Yes, it is a pre-war one; here's a picture of a 1937 one, it looks the same as yours:

I've no ideas as to value, most of the ones on ebay are reproductions or later, smaller ( as fitted to Mark 2) versions, but you have given me the opportunity to dig a picture out the 1946 version, sadly without tail Sad that graced the radiator of my first car, and now lives on the computer desk Smile

Hi Truthteller,

If your mascot is an original Desmo one then they are quite sought after.
These were first produced in the 30's and did naturally find their way onto
SS and Jaguar cars. However William Lyons disliked the "scalded cat" so much that he commissioned F. Gordon Crosby to come up with a more acceptable accessory. Hence the emblem that we know today.

Hi there,

The lists I'm on confirm it is from a 1937 car but apparently they were seen as horrible by sir william and that is why he changed them for the more smooth version. Apparently the thought is that I should do all I can in my powers to stop this getting onto an SS.....lol. They do go well on ebay apparently but make sure it's an original and if it is then make that known on ebay etc. Sorry couldn't be of any further help.
