I started working at (the late) David Cobb's garage at the tender age of 17. They were probably having a laugh at my expense as the first car I was given to service was one of these.! Fortunately, I had been steeped in some quality motors at my Dad's garage so took it in my stride. The only difficulty I had was reaching everything under the bonnet but I managed somehow and the old Colonel who owned the car gave me a nice tip.
Driving one of these behemoths is unlike anything else. You are immediately aware of it's girth but then so is every other driver.! They tend to make allowances!
Mk10s don't often turn up in this condition and in all honesty they are not as "chuckable" as a Mk2 but if I was in the market for a "once in a lifetime" car then, for me, this one would be worth bidding on.
Not Too much, mind!

Incidentally, I can't imagine why the guy had so much trouble finding the starter button.. It is a black push button to the right of the cigar lighter which is next to the ignition key. You do, however, have to be sure that the fuel switch (next to the starter button) is flicked on ...or you will be going nowhere.! |
