Some lovely sunshine here yesterday saw a few classics out n about. A nice blue Ford Pop in town and later on we saw a quite scruffy green Scimitar.. _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

We've just seen a red Triumph TR7 convertible drive into the local garage opposite our work offices. _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

With, sadly, yet another set of oncoming driver dazzlers....?
Or, are we all in a race to the top, regarding headlights, brightness of headlight source, and [apparently] needing to see better in the dark, so we don't have to alter our driving styles , day or night??
Sorry, a pet beef of mine.
Especially as I spent much of the last 20 years of my working life, instructing military personnel whist driving around off-road, at night, without any sort of lighting whatsoever. Oddly, I was 'expected' to be able t see better at night under those conditions, at age 65, than the youngsters sat next to me behind the wheel, at 18+ years of age!
I'm not concerned very much about the 'directions' of the beams of oncoming headlights....Merely the intensity of the light sources themselves.
Hence my absolute dislike of headlight conversions.....which I see as pure selfishness. _________________ Dellow Mk2, 1951 built, reg 1952.

So...how are you with my halogen conversion?
Personally, I don't like ultra bright lights but hopefully, the extra visibility that halogen bulbs give should make night driving both safer and more agreeable for me without dazzling oncoming motorists. |

On a similar subject, it annoys me intensely that I can walk along a local road to the pub without requiring any lights at all because it's fully lit, but it seems that many of the drivers coming towards me can't see unless they have their main beams on. If I didn't think I'd get stabbed, I'd be shining a bright torch at them, see how they like it. Maybe it's their automatic system choosing not to dip, but they can be over-ridden so it's still just selfish, and against the "operate your headlamps in a manner that does not dazzle other road users". _________________ 1976 Vauxhall HP Firenza, 1976 Vauxhall Sportshatch (x2), 1986 Audi coupe quattro, 2000 Audi TT |

I have no problems with halogen conversions...or halogen headlamps at all.
The halogen light source is nowhere near as bright as an HiD or LED headlamp light source.
Neither is it a blue/white light output. _________________ Dellow Mk2, 1951 built, reg 1952.

I noticed , when I worked for a living, that rather a lot of drivers see 'driving' as the simple act of conducting a motor vehicle.
I know , if I mentioned 'road users,' the immediate response centred on 'other drivers!'
Which I think is a commonplace issue out on the roads?
Pedestrians, flocks of sheep, cyclists, etc, aren't seen as 'road users' at all, by many.
I've even quoted the example of 'passengers on a bus!'
A lot of motorists see bus passengers as 'not relevant,' because they are passengers on a bus.
But, in fact, each and every bus passenger is an individual 'road user!'
To ride on the bus, the passenger must comply with the Stage Carriage regualtions.
They must pay a fare, hold a ticket, or be travelling under some other form of 'payment'...
They travel subject to 'conditions of carriage.'
Same with a Hackney-type taxi.
London Transport used to run some very, to-the-point, adverts showing a traffic-crowded street, then an empty street with one bus in it.....I remember those adverts from when I myself was a proper 'London bus driver.' Back in the early 1970's...
So, whilst under certain types of street light, pedestrians at night are quite hard to see from inside a vehicle...[the wearing of something 'reflective' helps a lot]...Always were.
In days past, bus drivers had to overcome the additional problem of the reflections of their interior lighting, in the windscreen.
A reason for the weirdly sloping bus windscreens of the past.....They didn't really work.......especially on rural or inter-urban bus routes. _________________ Dellow Mk2, 1951 built, reg 1952.
