Thanks for the heads-up again, I doubt my '92 car is old enough for the Peacock event (?), so I'll probably head for the Piggery. Has the Farmer's Arms now changed from a Weds evening to a Sunday? Perhaps a brave choice coinciding it with the Piggery event? Unless they're intending to start it later and catch some of the Piggery exhibitors on their way home, in which case, I may well call in for a pint, as it's potentially on my way home if I choose that route. Sorry, still haven't got round to being on Facebook, so forgive me if I sound a bit thick there! |

I think the Farmer's has swapped days for this week only, to merge their Weds evening gathering into some other event that they have already lined up for Sunday. I think.

I've seen a comment somewhere that the Wednesday evening gatherings haven't really taken off as well as they'd hoped, but I don't know if that means they've stopped doing them. I think the event on Sunday is part of a weekend of stuff.

If I recall correctly from last year, there's a wide range of vehicle ages at the event, along with some military vehicles and miniature steam rollers etc. I'm not sure whether there's a requirement to book in - I have, but it might not be required.

Thanks for the info, chaps. I went along a couple of weeks ago to one of the Weds meets, jut popping by in my 'new' car to have a nosey at what was there and to grab a quick pint, it was around 8pm ish and there was nothing there. Talking to one of the regulars there, it seems only a couple of cars and a tractor had turned up and had now gone. Shame it's not taken off really, they've certainly had the weather for it lately, and it's only just up the road for me. Anyone know what time the Sunday event starts/finishes, I might look in on my way back if I go to the Piggery?
I might look into the Peacock next year, Mike, the problem for me would be getting there this year, with the works on that new 'Reaseheath bypass' link road, as they're currently linking it into the existing road and there's temporary lights. It was tailed back to Bluestone lights yesterday afternoon at 3pm when I was trying to get to Sainsbury's, big tailback at Dorfold hall/canal bridge lights too, as a lot of cars had diverted that way, so I'm trying to avoid getting across Nantwich at the moment! |

2pm onwards, so the clash with the Piggery won't be a problem.
I haven't seen much trouble around Nantwich, but then I'm avoiding that area until it's finished. Hopefully the lights will have gone by the time Nantwich Show is on, though I cycle to that so the traffic won't be an issue for me.

Thanks, Mike, much appreciated, I'll most likely leave the piggery at around noon, as usual, so it's probably not going to work as an 'on the way home' thing, but will go home that way and see if anyone has turned up early, in which case I may call in for a pint.
Hope you have a good day at The Peacock, at least we won't be worried about it raining! Watering duty in the garden again tonight.  No, the weather won't break until a week on Sunday, when the Cholmondeley Arms meet coincides with my birthday! Mark my words, rain will be guaranteed!  |

A good turnout of cars and military stuff at The Peacock yesterday - there wouldn't have been any issues with the age of your Range Rover, there were some fairly new cars such as a 17-plate Jaguar in the display area. Plenty of public turning up too, and queues for rides on the trains. They've got a lot of plans for the site, including two more lines of different gauges.

It's the monthly meeting at the Coachman, Hartford, this Sunday 26th starting at 9am. It's opposite Hartford station.
I hadn't realised they do a monthly one - I went on Good Friday and it was pretty busy, and I know they do one every Wednesday at 5pm, but the monthly one was news to me.

I'll bear it in mind next year, Mike... at least I should be able to get to it by then, that Reaseheath roadworks is a PIA at the moment. In the end I decided to have a lie in on Sunday instead of going to the Piggery, then went to the Farmer's Arms at 2pm instead. A reasonable turn out, including a dozen or so tractors, the red Lister Jag, a nice Series 2A Land Rover with the top and windscreen down and a very nice Mini van that the owner actually won in a raffle, and several American cars/pickups. They had a couple of bands playing too, and it was a nice sunny afternoon, so it was a very enjoyable afternoon.

God willing, I'll be at the Chum on Sunday... I told you it was going to rain, a car meet on my doorstep coinciding with my birthday, it was never going to do anything else! Latest forecast is possible light showers overnight and early morning, petering out around 9am, so hopefully the roads won't be too wet and the event itself will be dry. See you there if your going, I'll buy you a pint afterwards to mark my Birthday! |
