The thing that I first noticed was the repeater lamp on the front wing.

No disrespect, but I was reminded of HRH Charles comment in his 1984 speech to the RIBA about their proposed modernist extension to the National Gallery when he called it a "monstrous carbuncle on the face of an old friend" .

Not as bad as that, of course, but I am glad we don't have to fit them to our cars. Wink

I hear you, thats also why I had her for 6 years, without fitting any.

But since its twice the work, if I fitted some, and then had to remove them after the MOT inspection,
I thought "why not do it correct" and belive me = if I hadnt found two of these, that Volvo DK fitted in 1961, then I would have made a removable bracket.

A added bonus is the additional "bling" remove focus from the poor garage paint job it recived while still living in Sweden Cool

These have 2 nick names = Dumbo,s ears or hand grenades .

I am sure you will get used to them. Adds "character"! Wink

From what I can see, the paint seems to have been applied quite thickly.

I think (if it were my car) I would see if it could be improved. I would work on a small area first by gently flatting with increasingly fine "wet n' dry" paper then finish with a rubbing compound. Hopefully, the surface will improve. If it does you could possibly give the whole car a machine polish.

Your call, of course.

Thats a good choice of words Cool and yes.
Some of the other Volvo owners also want me to remove the wing mirrors,
but I want to keep them for the very same reason.

Not so - the pictures are deceiving, its actually a VERY thin layer of paint.

Car was "sanded" down with a flapdisc, and no primer = just one coat of thin laquer, its so thin, that it reminds me of Black varnish.

The good thing is it does come out really gloss, when you polish it.

Yesterday I put some Black paint into the long scrathes it had = got key,ed before I bought it.
Hope the polish machine can flatten it a bit, without taking more of the old paint off.

Here is a reminder of what she looked like, when I bought her =

Yes - low life people Sad not only should they pay all cost of the repair, they shold also do all the work too.

Yesterday the 61 had a upgrade Very Happy I found a very good set of Marchal spots, at our annual autumm swapmeet.

This made it possible for me to swap out the corroced reflector, on the one on passenger side.
The glass had separated from the reflector, and the rust kept creeping under the Silver, you can see it spreading from the bottom all over the reflector upto the area behind 662.

Chrome bezel also had a small dent.

Much better now.

Spotted this rare Amazon in the classic car park.
Knew they existed, but never seen one with this option before Shocked

Yesterdays swapmeet produced these two items.
A keyfob from the dealer, that sold my wagon project in 1968, and a correct rubber gasket, to replace the home made one, on drivers side indicator.

Swapmeets are getting cheaper to attend.
