Occasionally I've had a hankering for something different, and having holidayed in France a couple of times I was struck by the amount of untouched classic cars still out there.

You come across them everywhere from cars in barns to vans in hedgerows!
I've got a real hankering for an early Simca Aronde, I saw a few while over there and despite having been neglected they still looked quite solid for their age.

So what about their reputation for reliability and mechanical toughness I wondered? Well this clip from youtube seems to have answered that question!

There are much nicer examples to be had as here:

UJ it's a shame really, France is a lovely country spoiled only by the people that live there! Laughing

Ten years ago it was possible to approach the farmer/owner of the old vehicles and buy them for a song, the French you see couldn't understand our British love of anything old - to them they were simply obsolete vehicles and disposed of.

Today, especially with the advent of ebay all such vehicles are now considered by Frenchmen as 'classics in the rough', and like diamonds in the rough they apportion a large price on them.

Sorry to say that human nature being what it is (and particularly the French male's nature) you now have to pay an unreasonable price for the vehicles or he will let it rot! Rolling Eyes
