Does anyone recognised this motor-car?

John-Paul emailed me, asking about it:

"I wonder if you could identify a car for me. I attach the picture. I really
need to know the make and the year of first production.

Great thanks for any help."

To me it looked more like a concept, or 'dream' car from the 1950s styling studios, John-Paul added:

"I don't know whether it was a production model. It does look more like a
dream car to me. The images are taken from an advert in a magazine in the 1950s, with the subtitle '2000 Horsepower and turbo-powered' - so probably you are right. Do you know of any online resources that list this kind of thing?"

Does anyone recognise this machine???
ta, Rick

1951 GM LeSabre concept car designed by Harley Earl.

"Earl himself used to conduct the car as his everyday driver for almost 70 thousand miles.
Many of the styling concepts used on the LeSabre will find their way into normal production GM models, and the name will be later used on a Buick car line."

Same car at the 2006 Buick Meet in Rochester Minnesota.
Photos taken by a friend who was there with his '66 Buick Special.

It seems auto makers in the 50s did that quite a bit... build a lavish concept car that would tour cars show circuits, but never see production....but as stated, some of the features of a particular concept may eventually end up on one model or another.

Aha Dave!

You obviously didn't look at the link Shocked http://autospeed.com/cms/A_1970/article.html

It's what is considered to be the first concept car. The 1938 Buick Y-Job.

Hi stuchamp,

It's difficult not be impressed by the designs of Harley Earl and Raymond Loewy...but I guess I don't need to say that to you Very Happy

Hi

I missed that, partly due to a lack of time, getting ready for another day boiler bashing!

Cheers

a comprehensive article on the LeSabre can be found in Collectible Automobile. truly an amazing car, it is more than just the sum of it's parts! it is not a huge car by any imagination, and was a pioneer in flex-fuel technology! many unique technologic details were experimented with on this car. while i'm not a GM fan personally, i love the golden era of Detroit show car excess.

Just looking at the above pictures made me think about trying to restore some of these vehicles.

Could you imagine trying to recreate some of these shapes in metal Confused
