Luis, who lives in Brazil, sent in this picture of his recently purchased van, and has a few questions about modifying it to modern engine etc. Does anyone have any tips on good engine choices?

"Hi, my Name is Luiz and I just bought one e83w van. The idea is to install an updated power train once the original one already gone.

I would like to be in touch with colleagues who already installed new engines on it.

In the attached file there is one picture of the van."

Myself, I would use a Chevy V6 or a small block Chevy V8, 283, 327, or 350.
For updating the whole car I would use a Chevy S10 Blazer or pickup chassis if the wheelbase measures out.
If he wants to keep more of an original look, go with a Chevy 4-banger, the old "iron duke", also used in boats. Or the old Ford Pinto 4-banger could be another choice.
Just my 2 cents! Smile

Geographically, Stu is right. It's a lot easier to get ahold of the possible replacements he's mentioned than going for, say, a 1600 crossflow or a BMC.
I believe the E83W is a bit shorter than an S10, but if he's got the facilities to carry it out, then that's a good choice, too.

Hi

I will for one help him find an orrignal to replace the old unit with. Be a shame to mod the E83W in the picture.

Cheers

Dave
