...according to an article in the swedish newspaper that I have in front of me....

Apparently, 99% of Classic Car Owners in the UK, and I'm quoting here ''own Ferraris and Jaguars'' and are also ''rich men.''

Also, according to this article, the next collectors cars will be:

1) an (up to) 1983 Golf GTI. 2) an (up to) 1984 Renault 5 Gordini 3) a 1985-on Alfa Romeo 75 and finally 4) a 1985-on Volvo 480.....

If this doesnt create any comments on here, nothing will!

If I could change this to a poll, I would. The questions would be:

1) How many forum members are rich?

2) How many own a Ferrari?

3) How many own a Jag?

4) Why do all (well, most, there is the odd Jag on here) forum members say they dont fit the above?

It's nice to see that Swedish newspapers can be as incisive and accurate as our own! Rolling Eyes

I'd actually be moved to email the journalist and ask him to stick to a subject that he may actually have some knowledge of, what utter cock!

1 Ferrari's are 'Collectors cars' rather than classic cars, and it follows that those who are collectors and Ferrari owners must have ample money.

2 The Volvo 480 will never be collected for basically as long as there is anything else to collect, unless of course you count the scrap metal 'collector'.

When vehicles are referred to as 'Collectors' cars rather than 'Classics' it speaks volumes of the mindset of the individual using that term. I don't want to collect them based on monetary value, I want to own and enjoy them based on whatever it is - nostalgia I suppose!

They do become a collection at times but that's only due to buying others quicker than I sell the ones I already have! Laughing

Oh...and a Ferrari? nah....sooner have an old Talbot 90.

O-N, if you really want to know what its like in Sweden, look at the Governments topic in this section.

Ferrari must be a really big company if everyone on this forum owns one! Several factories in Detroit, France, Birmingham.... Laughing

What an interesting article.

Most people I know own either a Ford of some sort or another a Humber or other Rootes group vehicle. Of course there are a few other odd people I know that own other makes, but mostly it's Ford or Humber. (Just the group of people I know I guess Wink )

As far as VW people are concerned, they consider the MK1 Golf GTi already a classic. The Gordini I could see as a classic. But a Volvo 480,or even the Alfa 75?Nah.They were rubbish when they were new,and they're still rubbish!
I'll take a nice 121 or a Bertone Alfa anyday.

Hi

I may be rich, but not rich with money, maybe happyness! he he I probably could have been a little more wealthy if I had a hobby of Knitting (or something simmilar) instead of cars, like the rest of use I would think! Laughing

Otherwise I think I am the person making your 1% UJ!! Laughing

Cheers

Classic car mags regularly run 'buy a Ferrari for less than the price of a Mondeo' articles, therefore Mondeo owners must be really well off Wink

Well my normal transport is a 1992 Mondeo and my other car is a Jaguar
so the survey seems perfectly ok to me. Laughing

Seriously though, I think it's a journalist who owns a Volvo 480 and would like it to be classed a bit higher up the pecking order. So he/she lumps it in
the same bracket as more worthy cars hoping the connection might stick.

Geoff

Did anyone see the episode of Top Gear where each presenter bought an Italian supercar for £10,000?

Neither of the cars actually made it through the programme without demise!
The verdict was that if you have ten grand to spend, buy a 'normal' classic as ten grand Ferraris are just heaps of junk!
